Rockwool has started the construction of a new production line at its plant in Ariceștii Rahtivani, Prahova County. The €150 million investment aims to double the production capacity of stone wool by the end of 2027.

The new unit will operate with an electric furnace designed for melting volcanic rock, a technology that, according to the company, reduces emissions and supports decarbonization goals. The line will be separate from the existing one and is part of the group’s plan to expand its manufacturing capacity in Southeast Europe.

Under regulation P118/1-2025, non-combustible materials for facade and roof insulation become mandatory for several building categories. This legislative change could increase demand for products manufactured at the Prahova plant. The expansion is also expected to generate new jobs.

“The €150 million investment reflects our confidence in the potential of the local and regional markets and allows us to strengthen our leadership in the insulation sector. (…) At the same time, most of Romania’s building stock remains unrenovated, with the majority of programs covering less than 10% of existing buildings. This highlights the urgent need for safe and efficient solutions, and ROCKWOOL’s investment in the new line will directly support this demand. In addition, the expansion will create jobs and strengthen Romania’s role as a regional hub for Southeast Europe,” said Florin Popescu, Regional Director Rockwool Balkans.

Rockwool Romania is part of Rockwool Group, a company present in 40 countries and active in the field of stone wool-based insulation materials.
