CFR announces bids submitted for the modernization of the Cluj-Napoca – Apahida – Jucu – Bonțida railway line

Romania’s National Railway Company CFR SA has announced the submission of bids for the rehabilitation of railway lines CF 300 and 412 on the Cluj-Napoca – Apahida – Jucu – Bonțida section. The contracts are estimated at over RON 227 million (excluding VAT), according to information reported by Agerpres, Economedia and Mediafax.

The project is part of the Cluj Metropolitan Train initiative and aims to modernize the railway infrastructure connecting Cluj-Napoca with surrounding metropolitan areas. Works are divided into two lots.

Lot 1, estimated at RON 128.98 million (excluding VAT), covers sections of Line 300 and Line 412.
Lot 2, estimated at RON 98.18 million (excluding VAT), includes additional sections of Line 412 up to Bonțida.

The works include replacing worn rails and sleepers, upgrading track switches, strengthening the railway foundation and modernizing technical installations. The objective is to increase train speeds, improve safety and enhance traffic capacity.

Six bids were submitted for Lot 1 and eight bids for Lot 2, from companies and consortia based in Romania, Poland, Austria and Kazakhstan.

CFR states that railway infrastructure investment remains a strategic priority, aimed at eliminating speed restrictions, reducing operational costs and improving the attractiveness of rail transport in the region.
