Google has launched Gemini for Home, an enhanced version of its voice assistant designed to transform how users interact with their homes. The new platform integrates artificial intelligence to understand the context of each home and the priorities of individual users, going beyond the traditional functionality of Google Assistant.
More Natural and Personalized Interactions
According to Anish Kattukaran, Chief Product Officer at Google Home & Nest, “Gemini for Home not only replaces Google Assistant on smart speakers and displays but also improves existing devices, such as smart cameras and doorbells, as well as the Google Home app.” The new system enables more natural conversations and manages daily tasks more efficiently.

Gemini retains conversation context and provides responses tailored to the situation. For example, after a user asks about a dishwasher issue, they can continue the conversation without repeating initial details. The assistant also recommends music, movies, or podcasts based on user descriptions rather than exact titles and can control smart home devices through complex commands, such as: “Turn off all lights except those in the office.”
Creative Brainstorming and Intelligent Notifications
Gemini is more than a simple organizer for lists and reminders; it acts as an active partner. “It can automatically add ingredients to a shopping list or set a cooking timer, adapting recommendations to dietary preferences and portion sizes,” Google explains. The Gemini Live feature enables real-time brainstorming for meals, events, or activities, providing suggestions tailored to context.
Smart cameras become even smarter with Gemini, offering AI-generated descriptions of detected events instead of generic alerts. The Home Brief feature summarizes key moments of the day in short, relevant video clips, while Ask Home allows quick searches in video history via voice or text commands, for example: “What time did the kids get home?” Complex automations can be created simply using natural language: “Turn on the porch lights and lock the front door at sunset.”
Access and Subscriptions
Gemini for Home will be available through an early access program for smart speakers, displays, cameras, and existing smart doorbells. Basic features will replace the standard Google Assistant, while advanced features, including Gemini Live, AI notifications, and Ask Home automations, will be accessible via the Google Home Premium subscription at $10 per month, also included in the Google AI Pro and Ultra packages.
