A new operating block dedicated to emergency pediatric surgery and endoscopy has been inaugurated at the “Marie Curie” Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children in Bucharest. The project was developed in partnership with Inima Copiilor Association and received approximately €1.25 million in funding from Groupama through the redirection of corporate profit tax.
The first medical procedures are expected to take place shortly, providing children with access to modern facilities and advanced medical technologies.
The new block will serve around 10,000 pediatric patients
The “Marie Curie” Hospital treats more than 100,000 children every year, while the new operating block is expected to serve approximately 10,000 patients requiring surgery or emergency procedures annually.
The facility was designed according to modern standards, including advanced air treatment and filtration systems, as well as automated lighting. It will allow doctors to perform minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and arthroscopy.
The new infrastructure also includes integrated medical and digital systems, high-resolution video technology and electronic medical records, supporting faster and more efficient communication between medical teams.
Remote consultations and medical education
One of the key features of the new operating block is the possibility of securely broadcasting procedures in real time. This can facilitate remote consultations with specialists and create new opportunities for medical education.
Residents and medical students will also be able to use the system for educational purposes, gaining access to procedures and clinical cases in a controlled environment.
The investment represents another step in the modernization of the “Marie Curie” Hospital, which has been operating since 1984 and has undergone a series of improvements aimed at replacing outdated infrastructure and bringing medical services closer to current standards.
Groupama continues investments in healthcare
The project is part of Groupama’s broader commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives in Romania. In 2026, the company is involved in 29 health-related investment projects.
Among these initiatives is the “Life Savers” program, developed in partnership with the Foundation for SMURD, through which more than 17,000 people in 84 cities have received first-aid training.
Through the investment at Marie Curie Hospital, Groupama is contributing to the development of modern medical infrastructure dedicated to children and to improving access to specialized emergency and surgical care.
