The project is led by Fidji Simo, head of the applications division, who will also oversee the product’s marketing strategy. The initiative aims to simplify the user experience and unify AI tools within a single ecosystem.
At the same time, the company is pursuing internal efficiency gains, as fragmented projects have reportedly slowed development.
Growing competition in AI
The unified app initiative comes amid intensifying competition in the AI market. On the consumer side, OpenAI faces pressure from Google, where Gemini is gaining traction.
In the enterprise segment, OpenAI is losing market share to Anthropic. While OpenAI previously held around 60% of the market, recent estimates suggest Anthropic has reached approximately 73%.
Launch timeline and direction
No official launch date has been announced, but the project reflects OpenAI’s strategy to strengthen its position in a rapidly evolving and highly competitive industry.
