OpenAI Reports Record $4.3 Billion Revenue in First Half of 2025

OpenAI generated approximately $4.3 billion in revenue during the first six months of 2025, marking a 16% increase compared to the previous year. The information was published by The Information, citing financial disclosures shared with shareholders, according to Reuters.

High Research and Development Costs

The company reported expenses of $2.5 billion, mainly directed toward research and development projects for artificial intelligence and the operation of ChatGPT, according to the same source. Research and development costs totaled $6.7 billion in the first half of the year, while by the end of the period, OpenAI held around $17.5 billion in cash and securities.

Financial Goals and External Investments

OpenAI aims to reach annual revenue of $13 billion and cash consumption of $8.5 billion by the end of the year. In August, Reuters reported that the firm was engaged in preliminary talks regarding a share sale that would allow employees to cash out their holdings, potentially valuing the company at $500 billion.

Last week, Nvidia confirmed its plan to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI while also supplying chips for data centers.
