Data released by the Association of Automobile Manufacturers of Romania (ACAROM) show that the local automotive industry began 2026 on a downward trend. In January, 36,875 cars were produced, down 6.6% compared to January 2025, when 39,463 units were assembled.

Of the total output recorded in the first month of this year, 18,880 units were produced at the Dacia plant in Mioveni, while 17,995 cars were assembled at Ford Otosan Craiova. Compared to January 2024, when production reached 48,728 units, the decline stands at approximately 32%, relative to the record year 2024.

Ford Otosan Craiova reported a 4% increase compared to January 2025, indicating a stabilization of volumes. In contrast, production at Dacia Mioveni dropped from over 22,000 units in January 2025 to under 19,000 in January 2026, marking a decline of nearly 20%.

Mihai Bordeanu, Country Manager Dacia Romania, previously explained that the reduction in 2025 volumes significantly impacted the overall industry result, which fell by 2.6% last year. “Among the causes are the changes in the Dacia range,” he said, referring to updates introduced across all models, including the Bigster and Duster SUVs manufactured in Mioveni. Jogger and Logan are also produced in Romania, while Sandero production has been fully relocated to Morocco.

2025 results below 2024 level

For the full year 2025, Romania’s car production totaled 545,510 units, compared to 560,102 in 2024. Dacia accounted for 297,182 units, while Ford Otosan produced 248,328.

In December 2025, 39,651 cars were manufactured, down 4.13% from December 2024, when output reached 41,358 units. Of the December total, 21,655 units were produced in Mioveni and 17,996 in Craiova.
