City Grill cuts planned 2026 investments by half

Share

The City Grill restaurant group has budgeted investments of over €1.5 million for 2026, a significant decrease compared to the roughly €3 million invested in 2025. This year, the company focused its spending on restaurant infrastructure upgrades, accelerated digitalization, and improving the overall dining experience.

Major projects and strategic directions

One of the most substantial developments in 2025 was the expansion and modernization of the Hanu’ lui Manuc spaces, a project worth approximately €550,000, designed to accommodate a growing number of guests and improve service flow. At the same time, the major reconceptualization of the Pescăruș restaurant continues, with both technical areas and interior design undergoing significant upgrades supported by a €1.5 million investment.

“Pescăruș is one of the group’s iconic locations, and today’s investments set the direction for the coming years, both architecturally and gastronomically. Continuous modernization is essential to remain a trendsetter in an industry that constantly evolves. As tastes and expectations change, innovation becomes necessary, along with the ability to offer something new while staying consistent in quality and experience,” says Daniel Mischie.

The group also allocated €500,000 for the redesign of two Marty’s restaurants—recent additions to the portfolio—as well as for a new Gloria Jean’s café in Băneasa Shopping City, operated under franchise. The Monte Carlo building in Cișmigiu underwent major technical upgrades to prepare the space for a new destination-restaurant concept. City Grill Primăverii also benefited from a kitchen reconfiguration and new equipment.

For 2026, investment priorities include expanding the portfolio, continuous modernization of existing restaurants, developing menus, and strengthening sustainability initiatives and collaborations with local producers.

Dragoș Bercea appointed Corporate Executive Chef

Since November 2025, Dragoș Bercea has been serving as the group’s Corporate Executive Chef. He brings extensive experience in fine events and holds the title of “Best Chef Events 2025.”

“Dragoș Bercea’s experience in fine events—where gastronomy shapes the entire experience—has brought a fresh approach to the City Grill Group, centered on culinary innovation and sustainability. Under his coordination, each brand’s menu is crafted around its unique identity while reflecting contemporary urban tastes, including traditional dishes, modern reinterpretations, and international influences. A recent example is the expansion of the Pescăruș menu with a sushi section developed by Chef Armin Bostan,” adds Daniel Mischie.
