Swedish group Lindab, a producer of roofing, steel structures and ventilation systems, is leaving Romania after selling its local operations to Slovak entrepreneurs Marián Kapusta Sr. and Marián Kapusta Jr., marking the company’s full withdrawal from the Romanian metal profiles market.
The deal includes the Ștefăneștii de Jos factory, storage operations and the sales team. The local business generates around 210 million Swedish kronor per year (about €18 million) and employs roughly 100 people.

“This sale marks the completion of Lindab Group’s exit from Profile Systems operations in Eastern Europe,” said Ola Ringdahl, Lindab President and CEO, in December 2024 when announcing the regional withdrawal. “Profile Systems can now focus on the Scandinavian markets, while Ventilation Systems in Eastern Europe will target markets with solid potential for profitable growth.”
The Kapusta family previously acquired similar Lindab units in Slovakia and Hungary. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, and will have a positive impact on Lindab’s cash flow.
Lindab first announced its exit strategy in late 2024, citing years of unsatisfactory profitability driven by weak demand, volatile raw material prices and high cost inflation. At that time, its Eastern European Profile Systems division employed 250 people and reported sales of around 500 million Swedish kronor.
Market conditions in Romania added pressure. The roofing industry had a challenging 2023, as residential project delays reduced demand and weakened Lindab’s sales. Hopes for a rebound in 2024 did not materialize strongly enough to change course.
The Romanian roofing market is led by Bilka, founded by entrepreneur Horațiu Țepeș, which is expanding internationally and aims to reach €100 million in export revenues in the coming years.
Lindab, listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, reported 13.1 billion Swedish kronor in sales in 2023, operates in 20 countries and employs around 5,000 people worldwide.
