Streamlined prototype proves long-range potential

The Renault Filante Record 2025 concept managed to drive 1,008 kilometres without recharging, showcasing the efficiency of the 87 kWh battery also used in the Renault Scenic E-Tech, Economedia reports. The endurance test took place on December 18 at the UTAC proving ground in Morocco, after a previous attempt was postponed due to weather. The prototype ran continuously for nearly ten hours, stopping only for driver changes and routine checks.

To simulate motorway conditions, drivers were instructed to keep speeds above 110 km/h. The car averaged 102 km/h, consumed 7.8 kWh/100 km, and still had 11% battery remaining — enough for roughly 120 more kilometres.

Although visually inspired by the Étoile Filante land-speed car from 1956, the concept is built for forward-looking testing. Developed with Ligier, it underwent major aerodynamic refinements, reducing the drag coefficient from 0.4 to 0.3 through redesigned bodywork, covered wheels, and a narrow cockpit.

“This rolling laboratory designed to test electric efficiency weighs just 1,000 kg and is equipped with cutting-edge steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire systems, ultra-light materials, 3D-printed components and more,” Renault said in a statement.

Further technical details remain under wraps, but additional real-world testing is expected in 2026. The achievement underscores a broader trend: record-setting electric range in real conditions, echoing recent long-distance results from Mercedes and BMW.
