Bucharest joins Google’s global innovation network for AI and next-generation technologies
Romania now hosts Google’s largest development center for wearable devices in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), while Bucharest has become a key hub on the company’s global innovation map, Google announced as it celebrates 15 years of local presence.
Since 2010, Google Romania’s team has grown to over 400 employees across two offices.

The Bucharest center now brings together teams specializing in digital advertising consulting, wearable R&D, Cloud, and Android development.
Engineering teams in Romania contribute to Google Wearables Health Experiences and Fitbit Consumer Services, developing features integrated into Pixel smartphones and smartwatches used worldwide. In 2025, the local engineers helped launch an AI-powered health and fitness coach.
“Bucharest is home to engineering teams developing technologies for health, safety, and personal wellbeing for millions of users globally. Romania has become a strategic point on Google’s global map,” company representatives said.
Over the past 15 years, Google Romania has focused on digital education, online safety, and entrepreneurship, through initiatives such as Google Atelierul Digital, Google for Startups, and Google.org, which has granted nearly $6 million to Romanian NGOs and educational projects.
The company has also trained over 8,500 civil servants in Romania and Moldova on AI productivity and cybersecurity, in collaboration with the National Institute of Administration.
In the cultural field, Romania’s heritage has been digitally promoted through Google Maps Street View and Google Arts & Culture, featuring landmarks such as Turda Salt Mine, the Danube Delta, and Via Transilvanica.
