Adient, a global automotive seating manufacturer, will shut down its plant in Ploiești, Romania, with more than 1,000 employees set to lose their jobs, according to Observatorul Prahovean. The decision is part of a broader restructuring by Adient EMEA.
In a statement, the company said profound changes across the automotive industry have created significant commercial pressure. “Deep transformations across the automotive industry have led Adient to face substantial commercial challenges, and in this context the company anticipates discontinuing operations at the Ploiești plant,” Adient said.

Adient explained the move is aimed at preserving long-term resilience and competitiveness amid uncertainty over the pace of the shift to e-mobility, weaker consumer demand, a general decline in market volumes and rising competition. After assessing all available options, the company said it found no viable solution to continue operating the Ploiești facility.
The planned restructuring involves the gradual elimination of around 1,010 positions and the shutdown of production by mid-2027. Employees and union representatives have been informed, and consultations have begun in line with legal requirements.
In April 2024, Adient plc announced a restructuring of its European operations, including job cuts and the transfer of certain activities to lower-cost countries, without disclosing figures or destinations at the time.
In Romania, Adient operates five plants: Ploiești and Pitești (seat covers), Jimbolia (metal frames and mechanisms), Craiova (seat assembly) and Poiana Lacului (foam production).
