Hesburger Strengthens Its Presence in Bucharest

Hesburger, the largest burger restaurant chain in Finland and the Baltic countries, has opened its 13th restaurant in Romania. The investment amounted to €350,000, and the new location is the fifth in Bucharest.

“(…) With the recently renovated restaurant area, the mall becomes an attractive place for both Bucharest residents and visitors, who can now enjoy their favorite flavors in one place that also includes Hesburger’s product variety. We are continuing our expansion, and the next city we are focusing on will be Galați,” said Ieva Salmela, Director of International Communications & Marketing at Hesburger.

Rapid Expansion on the Romanian Market

Hesburger entered the Romanian market in May 2024 with its first restaurant in Râmnicu Vâlcea. It then opened a location at Henri Coandă International Airport in Otopeni, followed by one in Brăila and three new restaurants in Bucharest – at AFI Cotroceni, Băneasa Shopping City, and Mega Mall.

Iași became the first city in the Moldavia region to host a Hesburger restaurant, opened in April 2025, followed by the first Hesburger drive-in in Romania, located in Curtea de Argeș. The company later expanded to Buzău, Crevedia – with a second drive-in – and more recently, to Pitești and Craiova.

Founded in 1966 in the Finnish town of Naantali by Heikki and Kirsti Salmela, Hesburger is a family business with over half a century of history. Today, the company operates more than 490 restaurants across nine countries: 263 in Finland, 68 in Lithuania, 54 in Estonia, 54 in Latvia, 34 in Bulgaria, 7 in Ukraine, 2 in Germany, one in Poland, and 13 in Romania.

Hesburger employs over 6,000 people in Finland, and its total international workforce exceeds 9,100.
