Major Investment Strengthens Pediatric Healthcare Infrastructure in Romania

Groupama Romania, the country’s leading insurance company, has announced a €1 million donation to build a new emergency operating block at the “Marie Curie” Children’s Hospital in Bucharest. The funds, redirected from profit tax, will support the construction and equipment of a modern surgical and endoscopy unit, in partnership with the Inima Copiilor Association.

The hospital treats over 100,000 children annually, nearly half requiring hospitalization. The new facility, expected to open early next year, will serve around 10,000 patients per year.

“A modern operating block means safer conditions, advanced equipment, and faster interventions — more comfort for children, less stress for parents, and real support for doctors,” said Dr. Anna Kadar, Medical Director and Chief Pediatric Surgeon.

A Project with Long-Term Impact

The new unit will include three fully equipped rooms — one for general emergency surgery, one for pediatric orthopedics, and another dedicated to digestive endoscopy — along with all auxiliary spaces such as pre-anesthesia, recovery, and medical filters. Strategically located near the Emergency Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care, and the hospital heliport, the block ensures a fast medical pathway from arrival to intervention.

Beyond emergency care, the new space will enable modern endoscopic procedures, offering less invasive treatment options. “It’s an important step that improves medical quality and patient comfort,” explained Dr. Lorena Vatră, Head of Digestive Endoscopy.

Through this initiative, Groupama reaffirms its commitment to community well-being. The company continues to invest in health and education projects, including the “Life Savers” program with the SMURD Foundation and its partnership with Climb Again, supporting children with disabilities through climbing therapy.

“Together with Inima Copiilor Association, we’re proudly supporting a system that needs our help. This decision, made early this year, is already showing tangible results,” said Georgiana Miron, Groupama Romania’s Marketing, Communications & Customer Services Director.
