Walter Friedl will step down from all roles at the winery in March 2026, after over two decades of dedication to the project.
“I discovered LacertA wines soon after their launch in 2011. I was impressed not only by the wines but also by the architecture and the landscape of Dealu Mare. It’s an honor to lead LacertA into a new chapter of growth. Wine represents diversity — grape varieties, terroirs, people, and traditions — all blended into a unique experience,” said Mircea Matei.
Mihai Băniță, a third-generation winemaker, added: “LacertA is today one of Romania’s most respected wineries, known for its consistent quality. I thank Walter Friedl for his vision and the privilege of building this project together.”
Located in Fințești, Dealu Mare, LacertA cultivates 12 grape varieties across 82 hectares, producing more than 20 different wines. Among its signature labels are Cuvée IX (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Fetească Neagră, Shiraz) and Cuvée X (Chardonnay, Fetească Albă, Sauvignon Blanc, Rheinriesling).
