MedLife has launched Longevity 100+, the first and largest genetic testing program in Central and Eastern Europe, offering free advanced genetic testing for 4,000 people — employees of MedLife, BCR, World Class, and Decathlon. The initiative marks a significant step toward personalized and preventive medicine in Romania.
The program’s results will form the basis of the first large-scale study on the genetic characteristics of Romania’s active population, aiming to support the development of national preventive healthcare policies. The project is fully funded by MedLife Group.
From reactive to preventive medicine
Against a backdrop of rising chronic diseases, healthcare system strain, and advances in AI and genomics, Longevity 100+ represents a shift from reactive medicine — focused on treating illness — to preventive and personalized care.
Participants will undergo genetic testing using Low-Pass Whole Genome Sequencing (LP-WGS) on the Illumina NovaSeq X Plus platform, followed by one-on-one consultations with medical geneticists to interpret results and design personalized recommendations.
Genomic insights and personalized health plans
Results will be integrated into the MedLife app, which will link genetic information with each patient’s medical history — lab tests, imaging, and clinical data — to create a fully customized prevention plan.
“We are at a turning point in healthcare. With Longevity 100+, we aim to shift the focus from treatment to prevention, making genetic testing accessible and meaningful for everyone. The future of medicine is data-driven and centered on the individual,” said Mihai Marcu, CEO and President of MedLife Group.
According to Dr. Dumitru Jardan, head of MedLife’s Molecular Biology Laboratory, the program identifies over 100 genetic predispositions, including 75 common diseases such as cancers and cardiovascular or metabolic conditions. “This test helps us detect risks early and take preventive action through personalized lifestyle and medical strategies,” he explained.
Strategic partnerships and future expansion
The project involves BCR, World Class, and Decathlon, with the potential inclusion of additional partners as the program expands. Initially, the testing targets employees of these organizations, but starting next year, the program will integrate AI technology and conventional lab data.
