Mercedes-Benz opens orders in Romania for the fully electric GLC SUV

Mercedes-Benz has started taking orders in Romania for the new all-electric GLC, the premium compact SUV that introduces a refreshed design language for the brand. Prices start at €67,760, positioning the model directly against the BMW iX3 in the electric SUV segment.

Unveiled at the Munich Motor Show, the GLC with EQ Technology presents a revamped exterior featuring an illuminated grille and a redesigned interior dominated by a continuous display stretching across the dashboard. For now, the model is available in a single configuration — the GLC 400 4Matic — equipped with two electric motors producing a combined output of 489 horsepower, enabling 0–100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz confirmed that this is only the beginning. Starting in 2026, four additional power and equipment levels will join the lineup, with pricing expected to reach or exceed €85,000.

Range and charging

Early estimates suggested a driving range of around 714 km, but the official WLTP figure stands at 673 km for the launch version. Its main competitor, the BMW iX3, has a higher official rating of 803 km and recently achieved an impressive 1,000 km in an independent long-range test.

The difference comes primarily from battery size: BMW equips the iX3 with a 113-kWh pack, while the GLC Electric uses a 94-kWh unit. Even so, both models rely on an 800-V architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging. Mercedes states a peak charging rate of 330 kW, with 11 kW available via AC charging.

Earlier reports suggested that the launch configuration could support up to 400 kW DC, approaching BMW’s figures and theoretically allowing around 300 km of range to be added in just 10 minutes. BMW claims its model can recuperate up to 372 km in the same interval. Real-world performance comparisons will depend on independent tests once the vehicles enter full market circulation.
