Finnish healthcare group Mehiläinen takes over Romania’s leading private network

MidEuropa has completed its exit from Regina Maria, selling the private healthcare network to Finnish healthcare provider Mehiläinen. Signed in March 2025, the €800 million transaction is the largest healthcare deal in Central Europe to date.

Mehiläinen Group becomes the new owner, backed by CVC Capital Partners with a 71% stake, alongside Finland’s state pension fund Varma and other local pension investors.

The deal also includes MediGroup, the leading private healthcare provider in Serbia.

MidEuropa was advised by Romanian law firm RTPR throughout the transaction. Regina Maria operates over 400 medical units and serves more than 3 million patients annually. In 2024, the group reported revenues of RON 2.7 billion and treated around 6 million patients across Romania and Serbia.

“We are delighted to close 2025 in the same strong way we started it. After MidEuropa’s exit from Profi, we are once again involved in a record-breaking transaction with the sale of Regina Maria and MediGroup to Mehiläinen,” said Costin Tărăcilă, Managing Partner at RTPR.
