Netflix has decided to close Boss Fight Entertainment, the studio behind the mobile game “Squid Game: Unleashed”, as part of a strategic shift in its gaming division, Reuters reported.
The news was confirmed by co-founder and former CEO David Rippy in a LinkedIn post: “A difficult day, no doubt, but I’m grateful for my time at Netflix.”

David Luehmann, the studio’s development director, also announced that “after more than ten wonderful years — the last spent with Netflix — it’s time for the studio to close.”
Netflix, which entered the advertising and gaming markets to diversify its revenue streams, acquired Boss Fight Entertainment in 2022. The company stated that both “Squid Game: Unleashed” and “Netflix Stories” will remain available on its platform.
Under Alain Tascan, appointed last year as head of Netflix Games, the company is now focusing on narrative, party, kids, and casual games.
Co-CEO Greg Peters recently cited “Squid Game: Unleashed” as an example of the creative direction Netflix plans to pursue.
