Nvidia has allocated a $2 billion investment to Synopsys, the leading developer of chip-design software, as part of an expanded long-term collaboration, according to Reuters. The two companies plan to co-develop new design tools for multiple industries, powered by Nvidia’s advanced artificial intelligence technologies.

This agreement fits into Nvidia’s broader strategy of strengthening its position in the AI ecosystem through major bets on companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic.

Through the partnership with Synopsys, Nvidia aims to accelerate the tech sector’s shift from traditional CPU-based workflows to the company’s own GPU architecture.

Synopsys provides crucial software used to design a wide spectrum of products — from microchips to aircraft engines. Engineers rely on these tools to run digital simulations before moving to physical prototypes, a stage known for its high financial cost.

Typically, such simulations can take weeks, but executives from both companies state that Nvidia’s GPUs could bring that process down to only a few hours. “This order-of-magnitude acceleration will unlock opportunities that were previously impossible,” said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
