OMV Petrom and Complexul Energetic Oltenia have started construction of four photovoltaic parks with a combined capacity of around 550 MW. According to a company statement cited by Agerpres, the electricity generated is expected to cover the annual consumption equivalent of approximately 410,000 households.

The projects are located in Ișalnița, Tismana and Rovinari and are scheduled to become operational in 2026.

Over €400 million investment, with completion expected in 2026

The total investment exceeds €400 million, with around 70% financed through the EU Modernisation Fund. The first €16 million tranche was received in December 2025. The two partners each hold a 50% stake.

“Through these projects, OMV Petrom reaffirms its commitment to a low-emissions energy future, contributing to Romania’s and the European Union’s climate goals. We are transforming a region traditionally based on coal into a renewable energy hub,” said Franck Neel, OMV Petrom Executive Board Member for Gas and Energy.

At the same time, the company supports professional reskilling programmes in Gorj County. Through the RenewAcad initiative in Târgu Jiu, more than 200 former mining technicians have been retrained over the past two years as photovoltaic system installers, as part of a broader effort that has already prepared over 10,000 professionals for Romania’s energy transition.
