OpenAI has announced the worldwide expansion of ChatGPT Groups, making the feature available in Romania as well, just one week after initial testing in a limited set of countries. The new option will reach all users on the ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans over the next few days.
“First feedback from the pilot program has been positive, so we’re expanding group chats to all users on the ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans globally in the coming days. We will continue to improve the experience as more people start using it,” the company led by Sam Altman stated.

ChatGPT Groups work similarly to familiar messaging apps, with an important twist: ChatGPT is an active participant in the conversation. Users can call it in with @ChatGPT, but the model may also step in on its own when it detects that its contribution would be helpful.
A group can host up to 20 participants, and members can be added through built-in invitation tools or via shared access links. According to OpenAI, the feature could reshape online collaboration, supporting everything from joint research and document creation to planning vacations or helping moderate group debates.
The functionality is open to all users, regardless of whether they rely on the free version or a paid subscription, each tier offering its own set of limits and benefits.
