PENNY Romania has officially opened its new logistics center in Mihăilești, Giurgiu County, following a €35 million investment. The facility is the company’s first warehouse to operate entirely without gas heating, relying instead on heat pumps and waste heat recovery systems to ensure maximum energy efficiency and sustainability.

Spanning 22,000 square meters and employing around 200 people, the new logistics hub will serve 50 stores by the end of 2025, with plans to expand to 100 stores by 2027.

“The new Mihăilești logistics center is a strategic step in PENNY Romania’s growth. Expanding and modernizing our logistics infrastructure is essential to support our network and respond more efficiently to customer needs. This project reinforces our commitment to operational efficiency and responsible development,” said Daniel Gross, CEO of PENNY Romania.

The facility includes 800 kWp of photovoltaic panels for internal power use, dual EV charging stations with a total capacity of 88 kW, an intelligent LED lighting system with adaptive sensors, and an advanced Building Management System (BMS) for energy monitoring.

“This investment is the result of strong collaboration between our teams and project partners. As the first PENNY warehouse without gas heating, it reflects our ongoing focus on innovation and reducing environmental impact,” added Dan Crișan, COO of PENNY Romania.

The project was developed in collaboration with Oopy Arhitectura SRL, Eckert & Partner Beratende Ingenieure mbB, CON A Operations SRL, and Horeco Impex SRL.

The new Mihăilești facility joins PENNY’s logistics network in Romania, alongside centers in Ștefăneștii de Jos, Turda, Bacău, and Filiași. Part of the REWE Group, PENNY currently operates 430 stores nationwide and employs over 7,500 people, recently earning the title of Top Employer 2025 in Romania.
