Rodbun secures 19.5 million EUR financing to reforest 1,000 hectares

Share

Rodbun Group, a major Romanian supplier of agricultural raw materials for small farmers and the country’s largest seed producer, has obtained 19.5 million euros in financing from ING Bank and a banking syndicate. The funds will support the reforestation of up to 1,000 hectares of agricultural land as part of the National Reforestation Campaign financed through Romania’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The financing is structured as a green loan aligned with the Loan Market Association (LMA) Principles. The project is fully supported by European grants awarded annually by the Ministry of Environment, based on evaluations carried out by the Forest Guard.

“Sustainability is at the core of ING Bank’s strategy and values, both globally and locally. We are pleased to have coordinated this green financing for Rodbun, reflecting our partner’s strong commitment to a more sustainable future. Romania needs projects that bring real long-term benefits to nature, and this initiative contributes directly to a nationwide effort under the PNRR,” said Raluca Țintoiu, Deputy CEO & Head of Wholesale Banking, ING Bank Romania.

The Rodbun project supports Romania’s objective to increase its forested area from the current 27.7% toward the European average of 39%. Implementation will run until 2026, during which the company will carry out phased planting and maintenance activities.

“This project is more than a punctual initiative — it is a key part of our sustainability strategy. Through strong partnerships like the one with ING, we aim to show that agriculture and environmental protection can go hand in hand, creating value for farmers, nature and society,” stated Daniel Muntean, co-founder of Rodbun.

The reforestation process will follow international forest certification standards (FSC/PEFC), and the project’s impact will be monitored and reported annually.
