A national hub for innovation and supercomputing
Romania is among the six European countries selected to host the new AI Factories – strategic hubs dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence at a European level, announced the Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan. “Romania is one of the six European countries selected to host the new AI Factories – strategic hubs dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence at a European level,” he wrote.
RO AI Factory, a €50 million investment, will be coordinated by ICI Bucharest, together with the Politehnica University of Bucharest, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, and partners from the private and associative sectors.

“The mission is clear: to transform Romanian companies from simple technology users into creators of AI-based solutions. AI Factory Romania will provide access to high-performance computing infrastructures, training programs, and technical expertise for startups, SMEs, and Romanian researchers,” added the minister.
Romania, a strategic partner in the EuroHPC European program
According to a statement issued by ICI Bucharest, Romania was selected under the European EuroHPC – AI Factories program, which supports the development of artificial intelligence and supercomputing centers. The RO AI Factory will include the acquisition and operation of a state-of-the-art supercomputer optimized for AI, as well as the development of advanced services and infrastructures for research, business, and the public sector.
“The result confirms that Romania can play an important role in Europe’s digital transformation. RO AI Factory will be the cornerstone for future European AI infrastructure projects, paving the way for new investments, collaborations, and international partnerships,” said Adrian-Victor Vevera, Director General of ICI Bucharest.
The Rector of the Politehnica University of Bucharest, Mihnea Costoiu, highlighted the project’s potential: “Through this strategic investment, Romania takes its place among Europe’s leading players in the field of artificial intelligence. It is a unique opportunity to build cutting-edge technologies here, in Romania, that can influence society as a whole.”
The other AI Factories selected in this final stage are located in the Czech Republic, Spain, Poland, Lithuania, and the Netherlands, together forming a European network of excellence in artificial intelligence.
