Romania could receive an official invitation to join the OECD as early as June, according to Mathias Cormann, cited by Wall-Street.
The announcement was made during an official visit to Bucharest, where the OECD delegation met with President Nicuşor Dan.

Advanced accession process
Cormann highlighted Romania’s strong economic growth and progress in aligning with OECD standards in terms of income and living conditions.
Romania is currently being assessed by 25 OECD committees, with 23 already completed, according to Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.
OECD Economic Survey 2026
The OECD Economic Survey 2026 for Romania was also presented, outlining key economic developments and policy recommendations.
The report focuses on four areas: macroeconomic policies, social policies, climate adaptation, and economic competitiveness.
Reform priorities
The OECD emphasizes the need for sound public finances, responsible fiscal policies, more efficient use of public funds, and modernization of tax administration.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that completing the accession this year is a key objective, reinforcing Romania’s position as a reliable economic partner.
An agreement between the Romanian Government and the OECD was also signed during the visit.
