Ryanair to phase out paper boarding passes. Full digital check-in from November 12

Ryanair announced that starting Wednesday, November 12, it will move to a 100% digital boarding system, ending the option for passengers to download or print paper boarding passes. From now on, boarding will be done exclusively via the “myRyanair” app, where the digital pass is generated during online check-in.

According to the airline, 80% of its 207 million annual passengers already use digital boarding passes.

“While most of our passengers already travel digitally and won’t be affected, we remind those still printing their passes to download the myRyanair app before the full transition. Going fully digital ensures a faster, smarter, and greener travel experience, with access to features such as Order to Seat, real-time flight updates, and instant notifications,” said Dara Brady, Ryanair’s Marketing Director.

The full transition to paperless boarding, planned for November 2025, aims to reduce paper waste by over 300 tonnes per year, helping to lower the company’s carbon footprint.

Passengers without smartphones will still be able to obtain a paper boarding pass at the airport, provided they complete check-in online beforehand.

Ryanair also reported a 20% year-on-year rise in Q2 net profit, reaching €1.72 billion, while first-half profit climbed 42% to €2.54 billion, supported by a 3% increase in passenger traffic to 119 million.
