Online supermarket Sezamo marks one year since integrating Romania’s deposit-return scheme (SGR) into its shopping and delivery system. During this period, customers returned nearly four million packages, according to Wall-Street.ro.
PET containers accounted for the largest share, followed by aluminium and glass, reflecting everyday consumption patterns focused on beverages. In January 2026 alone, Sezamo collected an average of around 12,000 packages per day, highlighting steady adoption of the SGR service.

In its first year, one in five Sezamo customers used the return option at least once through home delivery, suggesting that recycling is becoming part of regular shopping habits.
Recycling integrated into the online shopping experience
“We integrated SGR package collection directly into order deliveries to help customers save time and simplify their routine. For our customers, returning packages has become part of their normal shopping routine, not a separate activity,” said Michael Kaiser, Sezamo Country Lead.
The company operates an electric delivery fleet and reduces plastic use through reusable and recyclable paper bags, some of which are later transformed into products under its private label Moddia PureCycle.
Sezamo is part of the European Rohlik Group, active in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria and Germany, and has operated in Romania since 2022.
