Shein avoids suspension in France, remains under government supervision

According to  Fashion Network, asian e-commerce platform Shein has temporarily avoided suspension in France, after removing all illegal items from its website. However, the company remains “under strict government supervision,” according to a statement released Friday by the French authorities, who hailed the outcome as a “fundamental victory.”

“Legal proceedings against Shein are ongoing,” the government said, adding that new actions will soon be launched against other platforms involved in “the sale of illicit products.”

Earlier in the week, French authorities had given Shein 48 hours to comply with the law after finding child-like sex dolls and Category A weapons listed for sale.

By Friday, the government confirmed that Shein had removed all illegal content and suspended its marketplace section, which hosted third-party sellers.

The DGCCRF (Directorate-General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control) verified that no illegal products—such as child pornography-related items, bladed weapons, or medicines—remain available on the site.

Despite compliance, the Ministry of the Interior has referred the case to a Paris court, citing “serious harm to public order” caused by Shein’s repeated violations. Meanwhile, four criminal investigations into the sale of child-themed sexual material are underway, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.

France has also submitted a request for investigation to the European Commission, which acknowledged the seriousness of the matter. A new update on the case is expected next week, following an order from Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu.

Authorities said they will continue to closely monitor Shein’s operations and take “all necessary measures to prevent the sale of illicit products.” Other targeted platforms were not named.
