The Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” has been ranked 13th in Europe in the CSRankings global computer science ranking, outperforming established institutions such as the University of Oxford, University College London and the Technical University of Berlin. The announcement was made by Bulgaria’s Ministry of Education and Science and reported by Agerpres.
INSAIT becomes Eastern Europe’s top computer science research centre just three years after launch
INSAIT also ranks first in Eastern Europe, an unprecedented achievement for an institute founded only in April 2022. The result strengthens Bulgaria’s position as a rising European leader in one of today’s most competitive and strategically important research fields.

CSRankings evaluates institutions solely based on publications in the world’s most selective and prestigious computer science conferences, providing an objective measure of scientific impact. Although Europe hosts more than 1,400 active computer science research organisations, only top performers make the ranking.
The INSAIT assessment covers publications from 2023 to the present and includes research areas such as computer vision, robotics, machine learning, natural language processing and algorithms. In some fields, the institute ranks even higher, placing sixth in Europe in computer vision.
