Transavia is preparing a major expansion by developing a dedicated pet food factory worth €150 million. The new facility, located in Ciugud, Alba County, is expected to enter production during the second half of 2026.
“We are entering an important strategic stage that allows us to continue our mission of doing things the right way and providing safe, high-quality products,” says Ioan Popa, President and Founder of Transavia.

She explains that the new unit strengthens the company’s integrated model: “We have always avoided waste and focused on turning resources into value (…) the parts of the chicken that consumers do not prefer or that are not intended for human consumption (…) will be processed to create high-quality, nutritious, and safe food for dogs and cats.”
The investment, amounting to 763 million lei, will be fully financed from the company’s reinvested profit. The 65,000-square-meter factory will be able to produce enough food to supply more than 11 million pets each year, supported by its strategic location near the A10 motorway.
Equipment installation is planned to start early next year, followed by a testing and calibration phase. The facility will operate using advanced automated and robotised systems, with a supply chain designed to remain efficient and short.
Ioan Popa expects the investment to stimulate the local economy by strengthening partnerships with suppliers, generating new jobs, and supporting related businesses. “Within 2–3 years from the start of sales, we aim to increase EBITDA from over €100 million today to around €250 million,” he states.
According to Vice President Theodora Popa-Liteanu, the new factory consolidates Transavia’s long-term strategy: “We aim to become one of the top 10 global players in the pet food industry.”
