International Competition Promoting Digital Wellbeing

The Vodafone Foundation Romania has launched the second edition of the Skills Upload Jr Challenge, an international competition that encourages students and teachers to use technology consciously and creatively. The event takes place simultaneously in seven European countries — Romania, Albania, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, and the Netherlands — between October 2025 and April 2026.

This year’s theme is “Technology as an Ally: Promoting Digital Wellbeing through Conscious Use of Technology”, co-financed by VOIS Romania through the Brighter Futures educational program.

We know that technology and education can transform lives, but real change happens when they are used to build a healthy and fair digital environment. The imagination of students is an essential resource for the future, and through the Skills Upload Jr Challenge we encourage them to propose ideas that can make a difference. Together, we can create a digital society where no one is left behind,” said Angela Galeța, Director of Vodafone Foundation Romania.

How the Competition Works in Romania

In Romania, the competition targets middle school students (grades V–VIII) and their teacher coordinators, and is organized in partnership with Junior Achievement (JA) Romania.

Teams made up of three to four students and one teacher can submit their projects between October 13 and November 20, 2025, on the platform www.școaladinviitor.ro. Participants can explore topics such as artificial intelligence, digital safety, and responsible technology use.

Projects will be evaluated based on originality, social impact, practical applicability, team collaboration, and presentation quality. The top five national teams will compete in the Bucharest finals in February 2026, and the winners will represent Romania in the European final.

The European winning team will receive an international experience organized by the Vodafone Foundation in 2026.

The Skills Upload Jr Challenge is part of the broader Skills Upload Jr program, launched in 2021. To date, it has reached more than 7.5 million students, 600,000 teachers, and 8.2 million adults across Europe through educational activities dedicated to developing digital skills.
