Volkswagen has released official images of the camouflaged pre-production version of the ID.Cross, an urban crossover that will enter an increasingly competitive segment, according to Wall-Street.
Price, platform, and range
Volkswagen no longer aims to revolutionize the electric car market with its second wave of EVs. After customers criticized the design and interior functionality of models like ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5, the upcoming ID.Polo and ID.Cross are more conventional.
The design is similar to models like T-Cross or T-Roc, with a length of about 4.15 meters.
The platform is MEB+, the same as in ID.Polo and other models from the VAG Group, such as Cupra Raval or Skoda Epiq. This means front-wheel drive, with a single electric motor mounted on the front axle.
Volkswagen has not provided an exact price but stated it will be “around €28,000” for the base version. Higher-end versions will easily exceed €40,000, and three trim levels are expected: Trend, Life, and Style.
Battery and performance
The base version will feature a 37 kWh LFP battery, offering a range of around 300–330 km, while the top version will have a 52 kWh NMC battery with a range of up to 436 km (WLTP).
There will be three power levels:
- 115 hp
- 136 hp
- 211 hp
The electric motor, inverter, and reducer are integrated into a single unit weighing under 75 kg.
Practical features and charging
The car has a 475-liter trunk and a 22-liter front trunk (frunk). Weight distribution is 55% front and 45% rear.
Charging capabilities include:
- up to 90 kW DC for the base version (10–80% in ~27 minutes)
- up to 105 kW DC for the larger battery (10–80% in ~24 minutes)
- 11 kW AC charging
Volkswagen states that lower peak charging power helps maintain a more stable charging curve and improves battery longevity.
Driving and interior
The top version delivers 290 Nm and is described as responsive at city speeds but less dynamic at higher speeds. Estimated top speeds are around 130–140 km/h, with 0–100 km/h acceleration around 10 seconds.
The suspension setup includes MacPherson front and torsion beam rear, offering good comfort. Sound insulation is decent, especially for front passengers.
The interior brings back physical buttons for key controls, replacing previous touch sliders. The digital instrument cluster measures 10 inches, while the central infotainment screen is 13 inches, with optional Harman Kardon audio.
