Romanian producer Ada Solomon has been elected President of the Board of the European Film Academy for the 2026–2027 term, following a vote by the institution’s members. She takes over the role after serving six years as Vice President and after a long-standing involvement in the Academy’s leadership structure.

“Being part of the European Film Academy Board for a decade, I have taken on the responsibility of promoting excellence in cinema across the full diversity of European cinematic voices, while also shining a light on the less visible ones — smaller territories, underrepresented film forms, and behind-the-camera teams. This is a time of change, and I am ready to embrace the challenge knowing I have the support of the Academy’s executive team and the extraordinary people on the Board, especially the newly elected Vice Presidents, Leontine Petit and Matthieu Darras,” said Ada Solomon.

With a career spanning over 25 years, Ada Solomon is one of the most influential figures in Romanian and European cinema. Her name appears in the credits of nearly 100 films, and she is a two-time winner of the prestigious Golden Bear Award.

Alongside the re-election of ten board members, the voting results also bring three new members into the institution’s governing body for the next two years.

Outgoing President Mike Downey commented: “I am happy to leave the Academy in good shape and ready for the future. I welcome the new members joining in 2026 and I am confident their contribution to the European Film Academy’s membership will be as positive and dedicated as that of the boards in recent years — who did not ask what the European Film Academy could do for them, but successfully demonstrated what they could do for the Academy.”

The European Film Academy Board consists of 19 representatives and meets three times a year, in different locations across Europe, to confirm procedures and regulations, support strategic development, and validate nominations voted by the Academy’s members.
