Turkish home & decor retailer leaves after years of losses

Turkish home & decor chain English Home is withdrawing from Romania, with local stores closing one by one, Retail.ro reports. Although the company has not officially commented, on-site visits confirm that the Mega Mall and Plaza România locations in Bucharest have already shut down.

The retailer entered Romania in 2015 and expanded to 17 stores nationwide, but never posted a profit, according to market data — a factor believed to have contributed to its exit.

The Romanian withdrawal follows a similar decision in Ukraine, where English Home pulled out in October 2025 after ten years. Turkish media noted that “market conditions and operational challenges” led to the decision, along with the removal of Ukraine from the company’s official activity list and the shutdown of online sales. At its peak, the chain operated 35 stores in the country.

Signs of the exit appeared earlier in 2025, when the Ukrainian e-commerce site first removed product prices, then user registrations, before going offline entirely. A post on Instagram confirmed that online sales had ended, with purchases possible only in remaining physical stores. Ukrainian outlets report that a small number of stores are still open, though gradual closures are expected, with no detailed timeline announced.
