Hornbach, one of Romania’s leading retailers of construction and gardening materials, has opened its second store in Timișoara, located at Calea Buziașului 152, starting October 1, 2025. “The success of our first store in northern Timișoara confirmed the potential of the local market. We received numerous requests from customers in this area, who had to travel long distances to reach us. With the new location, residents of Moșnița, Urseni, and Giroc can reach HORNBACH in less than 15 minutes,” said Radu Oniga, General Manager of HORNBACH Romania.

Significant Investment and Modern Infrastructure

The project required an investment exceeding €44 million, covering the purchase of the land, construction of the store, equipment, and the initial merchandise stock. This is Hornbach’s second store opening in 2025, following the launch of the Bucharest Colentina store. “Beyond investing in the new store, we allocated over €2 million for the development of public infrastructure. More than 500 meters of streets were built from scratch, complete with utilities, and a modern intersection was added to support the urban development of the area,” explained Dan Bădescu, Expansion Director at HORNBACH Romania.

The store sits on 55,000 m² of land and offers 570 parking spaces. Its total area exceeds 19,000 m², divided into three main zones: 8,200 m² indoor space, 5,000 m² Drive In, and 5,800 m² garden area.

Sustainability and Customer Experience

The construction follows high sustainability standards, featuring photovoltaic panels, heat pumps, LED lighting, heat-recovery ventilation systems, and high-performance insulation. Over 12,000 m² have been transformed into green spaces, with nearly 200 trees, more than 1,200 shrubs and perennial plants, 9,000 m² of flower meadows, and an automated irrigation system. The landscaping also includes “insect hotels” to support biodiversity. “The new store is DGNB-certified (German Sustainable Building Council), one of the strictest international sustainability certifications, recognizing ecological performance, economic efficiency, and long-term social contribution,” emphasized Dan Bădescu.

The modernized concept includes an expanded plant and gardening section, updated tile and sanitary departments, sections for doors, tools, and aquariums, as well as advanced wood-cutting technology and customized services. Customers can access traditional HORNBACH services: curtain making, picture framing, carpet serging, paint mixing, delivery and installation, as well as professional advice.

The store will operate with around 120 employees, over 90% of whom are recruited locally and trained through programs combining theoretical lessons with practical exercises. “We are proud of the quality of the team formed in Timișoara. We are ready to support our colleagues’ career plans and quickly fill any future positions,” said Mihaela Boghiu, HR Director of Hornbach Romania.

Hornbach operates 175 stores across nine European countries and, as of October 2025, will have 11 locations in Romania, reinforcing its position as a stable and reliable employer in the DIY retail sector.
