Mega Image and Profi Rom Food, both part of the Ahold Delhaize Group, will operate as a single legal entity starting March 31, 2026, while maintaining their separate retail brands on the Romanian market.
Mircea Moga, CEO of Mega Image Romania, said the merger represents an opportunity for both brands to remain closely connected to their local customers while aligning teams, expertise and long-term commitments to the communities they serve. According to the company, the unified structure will strengthen operational efficiency and create a solid base for future development.

Together, Mega Image and Profi operate a network of approximately 2,700 stores, employ 40,000 people and serve millions of customers across more than 800 Romanian cities and localities. The merger will help the two brands better leverage Ahold Delhaize’s global know-how and expand partnerships with local suppliers.
Although the brands will maintain their individual identities and customer experiences, the consolidation of processes, logistics and supply chains will allow for more coordinated operations across the entire group.
The move comes as the Romanian modern retail sector continues to consolidate, with intense competition between supermarket and proximity-store chains. By adopting a unified legal structure, Mega Image and Profi aim to accelerate growth and strengthen their presence on the market, while remaining recognizable and relevant to Romanian consumers.
