UniCredit Bank has completed a €40.5 million financing for a solar power plant developed by Econergy in Oradea, further strengthening the long-term partnership between the two groups in Romania and across other European markets.

Within the transaction, UniCredit Bank acted as arranger, facility agent, and security agent. The credit facility is aimed at refinancing the construction costs of the photovoltaic plant, providing long-term financial stability and operational efficiency for the project.

The Oradea solar plant has an installed capacity of 87 MW and will be transformed into a hybrid asset through the integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a capacity of 68 MW. According to Econergy representatives, the storage component plays a key role in enhancing grid flexibility and optimizing the performance of renewable assets.

The project is part of Econergy’s broader strategy to expand its portfolio through hybrid solutions, amid the growing share of renewable energy in Romania’s national energy mix. Econergy is currently one of the leading independent power producers in Romania, with more than 500 MW of projects either in commercial operation or ready for grid connection.

Representatives of both companies highlighted the project’s importance for the energy transition and for strengthening regional energy resilience. The financing aligns with UniCredit Group’s ESG objectives, supporting green infrastructure and the shift toward a low-carbon economy.
